Chapter History

The Carbondale Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. located in beautiful Carbondale, Illinois was chartered in September, 1978.

Prior to the chartering, four Deltas went to the Paducah, Kentucky Alumnae Chapter to affiliate, in order to start proceedings for a chapter in Carbondale, Illinois.

Those Sorors were Lillian Maxine McGhee Williams, Brenda Taylor Mitchell Garrison, Catherine Johnson-Johnson and Lynn Michelle Warren Connley. After affiliating with the Paducah Chapter, the following women were made Deltas through the Paducah Alumnae Chapter: Betty j.h. Brooks, Kay Giles, Ella Phillips Lacey and Patricia Ann Cannon McNeil. The chapter was introduced into the community with a reception, and our former Regional Director, Wilhelmina Goff, as our guest speaker.
