DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, INC. MEMBERS PRESENT EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM TO MERIDIAN STUDENTS

We want to shine light on our very Active Delta Dears:

Soror Joan Floyd and Soror Alsandra Lewis

Project Director, Debra Houston, of the Meridian Community Unit School District’s 21st Century after school enrichment and remediation program, granted permission for members of the Carbondale Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to present an emergency preparedness program to the after-school program students April 5, 2022.

Joan Floyd and Alsandra Lewis, members of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., presented the emergency preparedness curriculum. The Student Tools for Emergency Planning (STEP) program, which is sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), has three goals: to help students become more familiar about the types of disasters that can occur in their areas, to work with students to form a family emergency communication plan so that everyone knows what to do and how to contact each other during emergencies, and to work with students to assemble items for a disaster supply kit.

Students who participated in the program received a certificate from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and FEMA.
